Creative Ways to Use Sticky Letters in Scrapbooking
One of the essential elements in scrapbooking layouts are sticky letters, but its easy to get stuck in a rut when using them. Here are a few new ideas to use sticky letters:
Mixed Case Titles
Using a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters in your titles can create a quirky and dynamic look. For example, in Barbara’s layout this week, the title uses a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters to draw attention and add a casual feel.
This approach can make your titles stand out more than using a single case. It’s also a great way of using odd letters up too!
Tips:
- Combine bold uppercase letters with elegant lowercase letters to create contrast.
- Use different fonts and sizes to add interest.
- Mix cases within a single word to highlight specific letters or parts of the word.
Emphasising Key Words
Sticky letters are perfect for putting an emphasis on key words or phrases in your journalling or captions. Pick out a key word in your title in a different colour, size or font to make it really stand out.
Tips:
- Use uppercase letters for words you want to stand out, like "PROUD" or "GOAL."
- Combine colours to further highlight key words.
- Experiment with different fonts to see which combination works best for your page.
Creating Borders and Frames
Left over sticky letters can be used to create unique borders around your whole layout or frames around your photos. You can easily draw on a pencil guideline and then randomly add sticky letters within the lines. (NB – this would also work with leftover picture stickers too!)
Tips:
- Spell out words or phrases that relate to your layout's theme around the edges of your photos.
- Use a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters to add variety.
- Consider layering letters with other embellishments like stickers or washi tape.
Layering for Depth
Layering sticky letters on top of other elements can add depth and dimension to your scrapbook pages.
Tips:
- Start with a background layer of letters in a lighter colour, then add a second layer in a darker colour on top.
- Use foam pads to lift some letters off the page, creating a 3D effect.
- Combine different materials, such as chipboard letters or puffy letters, for a varied texture.
Customising with Paints and Inks
Don't be afraid to customise your sticky letters with paints, inks, or markers. This can help tie your letters into the colour scheme of your layout and make your design unique.
Tips:
- Use paint or markers to colour your letters before sticking them down.
- Try inking the edges of your letters for a distressed look.
- Mix and match customised letters with pre-made ones.
