Cheryl, our August 2021 guest scrapbooker

Posted by Linda Gransby on

Hi, I’m Cheryl and I live in Cambridgeshire with my husband, elderly cat and two dogs.   When I moved to Burwell in 2008 and being new to the village, I wanted to join in with village activities.  Whilst I was looking through the village magazine I saw that there was a monthly scrapbook group.

So I took the plunge, called the organiser and arranged to meet her one evening so she could explain what scrapbook was and what resources I would need to get started.

As a child, scrapbooking was either collecting PG Tips cards or magazine cuttings into a sugar paper book but over the years I had seen some lovely pages where you used photographs, paper and embellishments to make a pretty page to go into an album.

Boy was I in for a lovely surprise.  I met the organiser and spent the evening making a themed first page for an album for my son, then of course I then needed to get an album, page inserts, page covers, papers, pens, embellishments, tools and very soon my ‘hobby’ took off (and took over the house).

Over the last 13 years I did manage to eventually finish my son’s album and then started one for my daughter.  Then of course there are the holiday ones, wedding ones, special birthdays, grandchildren.  Who knew how many albums you can have as work in progress and how much 12x12 patterned and textured papers you can have at any one time?  I love looking back and seeing how my style has changed over the years, but I still prefer those pages where you use a few photos and add journaling.

I met Linda a few years ago when she ‘set up’ shop during one of the monthly sessions and did a demonstration using punches.  Yep, you guessed it I had to get some of those punches!

Over the last few years we have changed one of the bedrooms into my own craft room so I have a dedicated space for my ‘hobby’ (though there are still some bits in all of the other rooms)!

You may wonder what happened to the village Scrapbook Group, well a couple of years ago I was asked if I wanted to take over the running of it which I did and am looking forward to restarting face to face sessions again in September.

I feel so privileged to be able to show you my version of Linda’s scrapbook sketches and cannot wait to see your versions.

Happy crafting, Cheryl x
