Simple Pages That Tell the Story

Some scrapbook pages don’t need lots of techniques or layers to make an impact. Jackie has created a double page featuring a collection of family photographs from a Star Wars experience at Disney.

The smiles, the poses and the familiar characters immediately tell the story. With five well chosen photographs, a bold title and very little extra decoration, the page captures a brilliant family memory without becoming complicated.

Give Yourself Permission to Keep It Simple

Many scrapbookers feel they have to spend hours creating every page. They worry that unless they use lots of techniques, patterned papers and embellishments, the layout somehow is not good enough.

It is worth reminding yourself that there are no rules saying every page has to be a masterpiece. Some stories are already complete the moment you add the photographs and a title. A finished page is always more rewarding than a collection of photos waiting in a box for the perfect idea that never arrives.

Simple layouts are perfect when life is busy. If you have limited crafting time, choosing one background, a handful of photographs and a title means you can often complete a page in a single session.

This approach also works well for holiday albums, where you may have dozens or even hundreds of photographs waiting to be scrapped. Rather than aiming for an elaborate design every time, save your detailed techniques for a few favourite pages and keep the rest straightforward.

Completing more pages means more memories are preserved instead of sitting forgotten on a phone, computer or in a drawer.

Focus on the Story First

When family and friends browse your albums, they are usually drawn to the people, the places and the memories. They want to see the faces, remember the holiday and laugh about what happened on the day.

Very few people stop to wonder which patterned paper you chose or whether your embellishments came from a particular collection. The photographs and the journalling are what bring the memories back to life years later.

Even a short note recording where you were, when the photos were taken and why the day was special adds lasting value that becomes more appreciated as time passes.
