 Ten Ways with Washi

Washi tape is a fabulously versatile embellishments, adding colour, pattern, and texture with minimal effort.

Here are ten ways to incorporate it into your scrapbook pages.

·       Framing Photos

Use washi tape to create a frame around your photos to make them stand out. In the example layout, strips of washi tape could be added around the edges of the photo mats for extra contrast and visual appeal.

·       Creating Borders and Dividers

Washi tape can be used to define sections of your layout. Try running a strip along the edges of patterned paper blocks or between different sections of your page to create structure and organisation.

·       Securing Photos or Journalling Cards

Instead of traditional adhesives, use washi tape to attach photos or journalling spots. The example layout already demonstrates the idea by using small pieces of tape to secure the journalling block. This technique adds a casual, layered look.

·       Layering for Depth

Washi tape can be layered over cardstock or patterned paper to create an interesting backdrop. Overlapping different patterns adds texture and can break up solid-coloured areas.

·       Embellishing Titles

Use washi tape behind a title to create a striking background or as a banner to make the text pop. In the example, the "35 Today!" title could be enhanced by placing strips of washi underneath for contrast.

·       Creating Faux Photo Corners

Cut small diagonal pieces of washi tape and place them on the corners of photos to mimic traditional photo corners. This technique not only secures the pictures but also adds a vintage or decorative touch.

·       Designing Decorative Strips

Instead of using patterned paper for accents, layer several strips of washi tape across the layout. This technique is useful for drawing attention to a focal point or adding movement to the design.

·       Making Washi Tape Flags and Banners

Fold washi tape over a piece of twine or thread and cut into small flags to create a banner. This can be placed along the top of your page or near a title for a celebratory feel.

·       Enhancing Clusters

Use small pieces of washi tape within embellishment clusters to add texture and layers. This works especially well with die-cuts, stickers, and chipboard elements.

·       Highlighting Journalling Areas

Use washi tape to create a border around your journalling to make it stand out. As seen in the example layout, washi can be placed around the edges of the journalling block to add colour and emphasis without overpowering the text.
