July 2025 Wk3 Scrapbook Page Layout

Scrapbook sketches are not rules to follow but invitations to play!

There’s a surprising amount of flexibility. One example can lead to multiple different results depending on how you interpret or adapt it, helping you to get creating without facing the dreaded blank page!!

By reimagining one double page sketch in different ways, you can build pages that suit your photos, supplies, and style each time with a new twist. Whether you're short on time, want to try a new arrangement, or simply need a creative boost, sketches can act as a springboard for inspiration.

Scrapbook sketches offer a visual guide to the placement of photos, journalling, and embellishments,

Here are several creative ways you can use ring the changes with one sketch….

  • Follow It Exactly
Use the sketch as a straightforward guide, copying the photo sizes, placements, title, embellishment clusters, and journalling spots. This is ideal if you’re new to sketches or want a no-fuss page design.
  • Flip It Horizontally or Vertically
A horizontal flip mirrors the design, which is handy if your photos face a certain direction. Vertical rotation allows for more vertical photo arrangements or tall embellishments.
  • Use Only One Side
Treat one half of the double page as a stand-alone single page layout. This is useful if you’re working with fewer photos or want to create a quick page while still maintaining the balance and flow of the sketch.
  • Change the Photo Sizes
Adapt the sketch by replacing several small photos with one large focal image, or vice versa. This changes the visual emphasis while still maintaining the overall flow of the design.
  • Reverse the Page Order
Swap the left and right pages around. This is especially effective when your photo story flows better in a different sequence or if a flipped version helps the subject 'look into' the layout rather than out of it.
  • Use It for a Theme Page
Adapt the layout for a themed spread like a holiday, wedding, or birthday. The sketch gives structure, while the theme guides your choice of colours, embellishments, and mood.
  • Create a Coordinated Single Page Now and One Later
If you only have enough photos or time to create one page, use one side of the sketch now, and save the other half to build a coordinated page later when more photos become available.
  • Stretch One Side Over Two Pages
Use the elements of just one side of the sketch but spread them out more loosely over a full two-page layout. This creates a more open, airy design while still keeping the original composition in mind.
  • Adapt It for a Mini Album Spread
Reduce the scale of the sketch to fit into a smaller format album. This works well for 6x8 or traveller’s notebook style projects, retaining the structure but adjusting the proportions.
