Ideas for sticking down vellum

Following on from my previous ideas about using Vellum paper.  Although vellum is a beautiful and versatile material, due to its translucent nature, adhesives can sometimes show through.

Have a look at these tried-and-tested techniques:

1. Using Double-Sided Tape or Adhesive Sheets

Double-sided tape is a common choice for sticking vellum to your layout. Opt for a clear, permanent adhesive to reduce visibility. When applying tape, place it under embellishments, photos, or areas with printed patterns on the vellum, as seen in Angela's page layout, where the floral and colourful elements could help conceal adhesive marks. Adhesive sheets are another option, providing full coverage without visible streaks.

2. Adhesive Dots or Strips

Tiny adhesive dots, often designed specifically for vellum or other transparent materials, work well for attaching vellum to your page. Apply these sparingly and strategically, such as in the corners or behind darker design elements.

3. Sewing or Stitching

For a more creative and secure attachment, use a sewing machine to stitch vellum onto your page. This method adds a decorative and tactile element to the layout.

4. Photo Corners, Paper Clips or brads

Avoid adhesive altogether by using photo corners, brads or decorative clips to hold vellum in place.

5. Glue Pens

A glue pen allows for precise application of adhesive, making it perfect for attaching vellum in small, targeted areas. Apply a thin layer of glue in areas that align with the design on the page, such as under a floral detail or title. In Angela's layout, the "same but different" title sections could provide ideal places to discreetly anchor vellum pieces.

6. Heat Embossing or Eyelets

Secure vellum with eyelets, which add both functionality and a decorative touch. Heat embossing can also seal vellum edges to the underlying paper, creating a seamless and polished look. Angela’s page features a variety of embellishments that would pair well with metallic or colour-coordinated brads, further enhancing the layered effect.

7. Layering Underneath or Over Photos

When using vellum as a journaling block or design layer, consider placing it partially underneath a photo or embellishment. This technique anchors the vellum while ensuring the adhesive remains hidden.
